Say goodbye to spring pests with these 4 easy tips
Spring has sprung and warmer weather is finally at our doorstep… along with some uninvited guests. This unseasonably warm weather is causing common household pests to rear their heads around the home. So on top of getting your summer bod ready extra early this year, you might have to get rid of a few extra bugs.
Thankfully, we have a few suggestions to help prevent pests from causing you discomfort and give you the comfortable spring you deserve.
1. Clean up crumbs
Ants are among some of the most common household spring pests and are especially prevalent in the kitchen. It might sound obvious, but even the smallest amount of crumbs can attract ants. Check your cupboards for stray crumbs from flour and old spices. Also, pull out appliances like your dishwasher and, if possible, your fridge and vacuum behind them. You’ll be surprised about how much food can stray from the kitchen bench top!
2. Prevent unwanted bathroom damp
Cockroaches and silverfish thrive in damp conditions, making them two of the main perpetrators when it comes to the bathroom. Running a bathroom vent for 20 minutes after a shower is the most effective way to remove humid air that can leave your bathroom damp. So check it’s working effectively or consider having one installed.
3. Reduce humidity
Termites are a common pest that often takes up residence in the roof and subfloor – two areas prone to damp and humidity. Roof and sub floor ventilation is an effective way to replace damp air with cool, dry air to prevent termites appearing in your home. This roof ventilator has the additional benefit of deterring rats and mice by letting light into the roof space.
4. Seal the deal
Finally, check for any cracks around the home as these can provide entry points for bugs. You can seal any cracks you find with <glue or caulking>. Also, if you don’t already have one, a door snake is a great way to help seal the crack under your doors.
There’s no need to wake up to bugs in your personal space! Simply keep on top of stray crumbs and damp, keep your roof and sub floor cool and dry and ensure all entry points are sealed. Follow these tips to help prevent pests sharing your space and keep you comfortable this spring.
